We can’t treat people with serious heart conditions, irregular heart rhythms or significant cardiovascular disease, pregnant women, or people with severe liver or kidney disease. Certain psychiatric conditions, some medications, and severe eating disorders that cause medical complications can also rule someone out. Our medical screening decides who can be treated safely. Under medical supervision, we transition you to short-acting opioids and keep you comfortable with IV fluids and medications. Depending on your dose and how long you’ve been taking it, this can take several weeks, so these clients usually need a longer stay.
